Obligation

Perhaps my nearly two month absence has depleted my readership; those intrepid few who remain will likely have little to celebrate on the occasion of this, my first entry of 2009. This is because I have little, if anything, to say.

I will relate that, since my last post, I have spent time in Delaware, Connecticut, New York, Oregon, and Washington. I mostly spent my two weeks of vacation snowed in on the west coast, and the weather allowed me to finish the year with 41 non-academic books read (a good year, I think). I saw much of my family between Thanksgiving and Christmas, which was nice. I saw some good friends, which was nice. The Eagles somehow made the playoffs, which was nice. All's well on the home front. All's well on the work front, though it has changed somewhat since I was shifted from Providence to Wakefield. No new jobs loom on the horizon as of yet.

At some point, I intend to do a food-themed post, recounting my experiences making Summer's birthday cake and its frosting from scratch, cooking a chicken purchased at Providence's winter farmer's market, and perhaps discussing the farmer's market more generally. Reviews have stalled as no movies have really piqued me into writing, and I've lacked the energy to so thoroughly discuss my reading of late. I have the feeling that at some point I will be rekindled, and will produce more for your reading pleasure. For now, however, this is it.

PP and I have seen some of the most interesting movies since we joined Netflix...trouble is I cannot remember the names off the top! For instance, last night we watched a French movie, done in cartoon style, about the journey of an Iranian girl. What I do is to read the reviews on Friday. If the movie has a 3 1/2, or higher, star rating I give it to PP and he puts it on the list. If a review "catches" me and the movie has a lower rating I might give it a try. We find ourselves watching a lot of off-beat things, foreign ones with subtitles (which doesn't bother PP because he uses them any way!) and just things in general that I would never just choose myself. It sure beats watching most TV shows. We are now reading "The Namesake" for our bookgroup. It is by an Indian woman who we have read before..Jhumpa Lahiri. We realized that we had seen the movie based on this several years ago. It is a good read. Thank you for being my "friend" on Facebook. I'm not quite sure why I am doing this but so far it is fun...this morning I got a note from Grand-Nephew Dave in NZ. We are awaiting your folks and Alex and Mary (who I will pick up within the hour) to watch the Eagles do whatever it is they will choose to do when the time comes. It is always up for grabs as to which team will show up! Keep your fingers crossed. So, that is about it...I have a huge pot of chilli simmering on the stove and even though PP and I just had our huge Sunday dinner, where I had a little of both entrees - salmon and beef - I am looking forward to the supper as well. So what else is new!? Love to You Both...N
