Re: Weekend
A most excellent weekend, I feel obliged to say.
Friday night SEA and I reignited our love of Guatemalan cuisine with a visit to El Chapin, where we actually (in contrast to the old days of Las Delicias) found ourselves in the cultural minority. Noticeable but not unpleasant, and the cozy space made us feel more at home, reminiscent of aforementioned Las D. Heaping plates of delicious and affordable food. Mmm.
Saturday morning we awoke earlier than expected and made our standard diner trek, then headed down to Mystic, CT in the early afternoon to meet up with Summer's old friend Barrett. We sampled cinematically renowned Mystic Pizza, which is actually quite delicious, and tried to find anything to do in the town that they wouldn't charge $15-20 admission for. Failing at that, we made pleasant conversation and took in the ambience, which was frankly not all that thrilling either. The high point might have been having to stop for an opening drawbridge. Or the painted whale statue.
Later we went to see Friends with Money, which was rather charming and clever albeit depressing. Fun and not stereotypical but nothing groundbreaking, I don't think. Not that groundbreaking is always good.
Sunday we went down to Colt State Park and enjoyed the lovely weather. We stretched out in the sun and read, and tossed football and frisbee--what fun! We also have the reddened shoulders to show for it, shame on us. Later, I simmered a pot roast in coffee and red wine, which turned out quite tasty.
I started this post some hours ago and can no longer recall where I intended to go with it, plus my thoughts are taken up by frustration toward the computer/DVD player, none of whose media programs can correctly deal with subtitled movies. City of God is off to an excellent start, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest on SEA's laptop tomorrow if I can't figure out how to solve the other computer's problems. I am also sleepy and have to get up early to drop off the car for an oil change/state inspection/front-license plate attachment before heading off on the longer-than-usual walk to work. Good thing the yawns are already taking over...
