10 Days!
How have you all managed to live your lives without my self-indulgent narrations?
Without awaiting your answers, I will replenish you, no doubt thirsty for the inanities of my daily life.
Friday, July 14 is today. It has been rather uneventful, save a nice breakfast out courtesy of my supervisor.
Thursday, July 13 involved a few noteworthy items: (1) movie night at Brandon's, featuring Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind*, pardon me if I've substituted an incorrect article there, and (2) perhaps the best Italian dish I've made, penne alla puttanesca, anchovy paste and all (I think the Barefoot Shiraz Ithat went into the sauce (and our glasses) added something too.), and (3) a dentist appointment which determined that the thing that seems like a crack on my tooth is actually a bit of braces-era damage that has recalcified and is therefore not a problem. I will be getting my teeth cleaned (hurray!) on Monday.
*I appreciated Eternal Sunshine more on second viewing than first, and I htought quite highly on it on first.
Wednesday, July 12 was, to the best of my recollection, not an atypical Wednesday. Upon delving into the murky depths of memory with a stronger flashlight, however, I can recall having had an exceptional evening of first obtaining free drinks from Starbucks and then using free movie passes to view Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I could be wrong, however, and this could have occurred on Tuesday. As a matter of fact, I think it did. Therefore:
Tuesday, July 11, Summer and I did that stuff I mentioned above. The movie was quite entertaining, and the much maligned lack of resolution did not bother me. My only complaint, and it is not too much of one, relates to the extended cheesy action sequences (e.g. Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, and the other guy in a three-way sword-fight on a mill wheel that seems to defy the laws of physics by rolling forever); I enjoyed plot and acting (Johnny Depp was, of course, superb), and the CGI, about which I was slightly wary, turned out incredibly.
Monday, July 10, I made eggplant parmesan, which turned out deliciously, and we watched Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, which I enjoyed as tremendously as I enjoy using exaggerated adverbs. Kiss Kiss possessed a level of self-awareness that I quite appreciated, a fun and not too predictable noir-ish plot, and an excellent mixture of intelligent humor (or so I call it because I was the one laughing, though I am also wont to laugh at things no one else finds even remotely funny) and action as fast-paced as Robert Downey, Jr.'s jittery acting.
Sunday, July 9, was day two of our almost-one-year cleaning extravangaza. It also included such joys as calling places in Oregon to start hoarding information for the wedding. Anyway the apartment is now clean and less cluttered and a joy to live in, which is not to say that it wasn't a joy before, but you know what I mean. As for
Saturday, July 8, I will let you guess. We probably did some other stuff this weekend but like I said, my memory is pretty murky. I even forgot in my last entry to mention that Summer and I had ventured out to Patriot Cinemas to see MI:III, which was pretty much a lot of fun (by about halfway through I was almost able to be not-skeezed by Tom Cruise). Summer will probably remind me of what we did, and I will then tell you. Oh, wait! I remembered some myself. I tried on a taupe tuxedo which I didn't especially like--it was okay--and then we went to David's Bridal and got accosted when we came in the door then never again offered hep, which was kind of weird. I suppose aside from that we probably mostly cleaned. Oops, now you don't have to guess any more. Then there's the evening which I still don't remember...oh well.
Friday, July 7 is even murkier. Maybe if I think hard enough...URRRRRRRRGH...it's just not coming back. We must've done something. I just can't think of what. ...NEWSFLASH...Saturday evening has come back to me, and given that it was the most shocking of Saturday evenings, I am surprised it escaped me before. Summer and I went to see Loose Change at Cher's. Loose Change is a Grateful Dead cover band whose bass player is engaged to the phlebotomist (Carol) who drew my blood the Monday before. So on her recommendation we went, enjoyed the music, and reveled in our social awkwardness. It was a good time.
Thursday, July 6 is getting way back there. I honestly have no clue. Instead I'll tell you another Saturday tidbit: I got socks from Payless because I was wearing sandals and had to try on a tux.
Wednesday, July 5...err...
Tuesday, July 4 Summer and I joined Brandon and Julia to check out the Newport fireworks. Though rain fell intermittently and our view was blocked by a 3 story boat, the experience was not dampened (in my view).
And that's that. We've made some good wedding planning progress, we've cleaned up, we've enjoyed music and the company of our peers, and generally all has been well. I hope the eradication of everyone's ailments is going as well as the reports seem to be indicating, but for now I ought to get back to work because writing this has taken longer than I meant it to.
